"I have owned Honda's since I leanrned to drive, but when I test drove the new Civic Ex I wasn't impressed. My sister told me to look at the Jetta's, and I did. WOW, I got the Jetta 2.0T out the door for about what I would of paid for the Civic Ex with Navagation.

The car is fully loaded, the leatherette seats are so much more comfortable than the Honda. I am getting almost 37 miles to the gallon on the freeway. The interior has everything I need, and more in a car. It handles like a dream throught the corners. The Jetta has much more horsepower and torque, and am getting almost the same gas mileage as a new Civic.

I never thought I would say this, but I will proabally never buy a Honda again. I am having a better experiance with this car than any other car I have owned.

"I bought this car used with 40k miles on it. As soon as we drove it off the lot, the check engine light goes on. It was in the shop for about a week and they still couldn't fix it. It's still on. The paint on the buttons peel off. The gearbox was recalled. The AC compressor was shot ($1800). And just last night, the engine made a screaming sound in NYC, and started to overheat and smoke. So I was stuck in an hour of traffic blasting the heat to avoid an engine fire. The fuses go out pretty often. I had no interior lights for a few weeks while the electric system was checked out. On the good side, its fun to drive (when it works), it looks cool, gets great gas mileage, has a huge trunk to fit two cellos, and....well...that's it. Not worth the money, buy honda, toyota, acura, or anything else for that matter. Don't buy audi either...it's the same company."

"Through the years I have owned 26 VWs. My first was a 57 oval window bug. I wish I still had it! Now, the 2006 Jetta TDI may be my last VW. The engine was starting to smoke at 50k, and the tiptronic transmission has failed at 62k. These are dissapointing results, as I take very good care of my cars with regular service and I do not push their driving limits."

"I purchased a TDI SE on May 23, 2007 which replaced an 2003 Lincoln Town car. The reason being, I wanted a more efficient car for my long days of driving for work. Well, I have learned that this was a terrible mistake. The seats are uncomfortable, the car rides rough, the stereo sounds terrible, the paint is chipping, a tall person like myself cannot sit in the back seat as sit up straight. The diesel needs servicing every 5k and the DSG needs servicing every 40k, the money I saved in fuel economy is given back to VW in the form of outrageously expensive service calls ($66.00 to $496.00) The Town car was serviced every 12k for not near the cost of the Jetta. Very disappointed! VW focus! Will be trading in for another Lincoln in the near future."

"It has been a great car, the only three complaints would be is that:
a)The drink cups are way too small.
b)If you crack a rear window open the
noise and vibration is too much.
c)Heat/ac fan is too lound in highest
position.

"Ruby is a TDI...the sticker when I bought her new said that I could expect 38/city 41/highway. I drive the car alot and I am getting an average of 48mpg. For some reason I get only 42mpg when using 20%biodiesel? I live in New England and she starts up right away. She handles well. She has good kick and power for when you need or want it (Boston traffic).
Not only would I recommend my car to another I would buy another one if I needed too. However, me and Ruby are gonna spend many many years together.

"This is our second VW diesel. The 78 Rabbit had a lot of spunk and fuel economy, but required constant work and glow plug replacement. Our 2006 VW Jetta diesel is awesome. We commute just over 600 miles a week. This puppy doesn't require oil changes or maintenance at every 5000 miles, but instead the manufacture suggests every 10000 miles(give or take).
Great on the highway, purs well in the city (but meant for the open roads).
Very well built, solid and I have recommended this vehicle to friends and family. Awesome car.

"I don't ever write reviews but the diesel version of this vehicle is worth raving about.

THIS IS NOT A SMALL ECONOCAR: 1) THIS ROOMY CAR WILL FIT FULL-SIZE PASSENGERS IN FRONT AND REAR; NOT LIKE A SMALL CAR. THIS CAR HAS A DEEP BIG TRUNK.

THIS CAR SAVES MONEY: 1) MPG IS HIGHER THAN GAS CARS = NEARLY 600 MILES BETWEEN FILL-UPS; 2) DIESEL CARS LAST 100,000 OF THOUSANDS OF MILES LONGER THAN GAS CARS; 3) THERE ARE NO EXPENSIVE HYBRID BATTERIES TO REPLACE IN THE FUTURE; 4) OIL CHANGES ON A DIESEL ARE EVERY 10,000 MILES VS. EVERY 3000-5000 MILES ON A GAS ENGINE; 5) LOWER INSURANCE PREMIUMS DUE TO HIGHLY RATED CRASH TEST SAFETY SCORES. 6) NO CALIFORNIA SMOG TESTS (EVER)!

"Haven't owned a VW since my 1984 Rabbit GTI... I have now bought 3! Jetta TDIs - one in Hawaii, one in CA & one for my girlfriend.

COmfortable, reliable, TONS of torque, great ergonomics, stylish. Incredible fit, finish & materials - better than BMW.
Handles great.

And the same mileage as my 2005 Prius Hybrid.

"I wanted a no-nonsense car that would last a while and still be fun to drive for my work commute. I did not like the exterior styling and still don't but I do enjoy the way this car responds and handles. Great gas mileage, getting from 28 to 31 back and forth to work. I use premium because it is more cost effective than regular, but both work fine. The 2.0 T is absolutely squirrely; you need to be paying attention when you stomp in it. Well cut lines inside, stereo sounds great. Worth the investment."

"Bought a "new" 2006 Jetta TDI fours months ago and can't say enough good thinks about it....but I'll try. On our first road trip to the mountians of NC got 49 mpg on biodiesel. The egromomics are outstanding, as is said, everything falls readily at hand and the seats leave you at the end of the trip ready for more. Handling (yank, bank, hoa) is of sports sedan quality...accerlation is satisfactory unless you're a ricky racer. And the DSG transmission performs as advertized, shift if you're suffering withdrawal from the stick or let it alone & it performs okiedokie. Can't comment on reliablity as she's so new. Looking forward to a road test of the 2008 model. FIN"

"GLI package 2; 17,000mi. Fun fun car. Very peppy. Stylish but not over bering. The only problem has been a factory foul up which the alternator was threaded wrong from the factory causing it to give electrical misreads throughout the car, from the fan control(air-heat) to the electrical steering. It caused the car to not start. The second day I had it I had to get it towed. The dealer was very helpful providing a rental and the 10,000 mile service was taken care of on there part. One other thing is the power lumber is broken and am taking it in 5/29/07. This should be covered under warranty. Other than that I'm very happy and look forward to driving the car everyday. I don't like the fact that I have to put premium gas in it though. Hits the pocketbook. $3.69 a gallon hurts. I can get about 380 miles out of the 14.5 gallon tank (driving conservatively which is hard with this car) so it's not bad after all is said and done. I would recommend this car but you must give the DSG a chance for those of you that are stuck on manuals. If you can afford package 2 then DO IT! Well worth the leather, dual climate and sunroof. The leather gives the car a good feel."

"I have had this car for 1 year with 15K on it. I have had no mechanical problems with this car so far. I love the car's look but I am not impressed with the 2.5 engine. Someone told me this is half of the w10 engine that goes into Lamborghini's but the performance just is not there. The response is at times unpredictable when accelerating aggressively and the engine shows it's limit past 85 mph. If you love the car's look then go with the 2.0T. You get what you pay for, pay 3-4K more for the 2.0T. But then with that money you have many other choices. Also not too thrilled about putting synthetic oil changes that costs twice as more than regular oil changes."

"This is my 2nd Jetta TDI. First was a 2001 TDI. I put 285,000 miles on the first and did not want to wait for the re-worked 2008 diesel. The 06 is larger and more comfortable. However, even with the 285k miles on the 01, it still had more power and speed. I love the interior and exterior improvements on the 06'. The 01' got 37 mpg when it was new and 35 mpg when I sold it. I bought the 06' in August and have 21,000 miles on it already. The trunk is huge. People can't believe how much stuff will fit. I don't know who gets over 40 mpg unless they drive a standard and use it for a grocery getter.

the only problem I have with the 06' Jetta TDI is the radio and air bag. Mine has the XM Radio and has been replaced once and the 2nd one is now non functional. The service department told me this morning there is no replacement radio in the US and that it has to come from Germany. This seems to be a huge problem, expecially when I am paying for the XM and can't enjoy it.

The air bag ignitor went off by accident when I was on the highway. This is also a concern as the air bags did not deploy. I questioned the service department and the technician(mechanic). They are dumbfounded and haven't a clue what happened. I guess a recall will next.

Hope to get the glitches fixed because I love this car.

"This is my second car that I have ever had. I kept my first car for 10 years, so I knew deep down I needed a reliable car, but I had my heart set on a 2006 Mustang...I didn't want anything else. I would dream of the Mustang LOL! When my automotive dealer had this car out for me to test drive...I thought it was lovely...very sleek and sheek. Then I drove it....OH MY Gooodnesss! I fell in love that day. It has power of a Mustang, but the look and feel of a beautiful mink coat!"

"I just bought a 2.5 Jetta package 1, w/leathette, xm, 6 spd auto tiptronic, 17" rims.

It really looks great and if you did not know you were sitting in a VW Jetta you would assume it were a much more expensive car. Great fit and finish and so far no issues. Handling/respsonsiveness are wonderful. If you play your cards right and shop around you can find used or dealer demos w/low milage for substantially less then MSRP and Invoice. It allowed me to get all of the features I wanted for the price of a base model.

If I had to think of something that could use improving, it is the engine noise when accelerating - a little whiney. Other then that, great car!
