"I bought this vehicle at Metro Ford in Independence, Missouri. It was the easiest and best car deal I ever experienced, and I've been buying cars for many years. The Escape is amazing! It's roomy, powerful, and fun to drive. I'd definitely recommend getting one at Metro Ford"

"I bought this car for the technology that it comes with. Little did I no that none of it would work. sync's my ford touch never works. always goes dead and reboots. satellite radio always skips (never did in my old car) FM radio is static, volume goes up and down by it self. ac buttons don't work. steering wheel controls all die. sunroof doesn't always work. The Smart Key that is a really nice feature when it works usually never works. leaving you locked out of your car for up to 15 mins at a time (not to fun when its pouring out and you have to be somewhere). and now the newest problem and the worst of all is the gas pedal just randomly dies well you are driving. Not happy with this car what so ever and its not even the cheap model. its the fully loaded SEL."

"I am writing this review for the sole purpose of helping at least one person make the decision of whether or not to buy the new Escape even with the somewhat negative reviews. I got sucked into the trap of thinking that these issues would not happen to me... However, I was wrong.
Up until a few weeks ago, I would have told you that I was very happy with my new car. Until I turned on my car (with only 4,000 miles) and was shocked to find that it was choking up and then saw a display reading "faulty engine, please service immediately". The car then shut off. When I restarted it, the problem had seemingly resolved. I still took it to Ford and they found an issue with the turbo. This required 2 parts and a 2 week + stay in the shop. When they asked me if I had rental car coverage I just laughed, why would I need this for a brand new car. I drove a Toyota for 10 years before getting this car and I never had a single issue. I would HIGHLY recommend reconsidering your purchase, especially if your primary concern is reliability! Additionally, I have had multiple issues with my Bluetooth and My Touch system and strange electrical issues. I will be trading this vehicle in the first possible chance I get!!"

"I purchased a 2013 Ford Escape SE..I now have 1100 miles on the car.
I have read some of the more negative reviews, and have to say that my experience has been overall excellent! At this point I have no problems with the Voice Activated My Touch Sync Sustem..works flawlessly..for now.
I love the handling of this car--corners great, has smooth acceleration, good brakes. The cabin is comfy although there is not alot of storage room..I end up using the side door storage bin frequently.
As for gas mileage, I am getting 21 mpg around town..I am totally satisfid with this mileage--I turned in a gas-guzzling Jeep Liberty that was getting a miserable 14.5--so I am in heaven at 21 mpg!
My main gripe with this car is the right side gas tank fill--it's pain in the neck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also wish they had made a functional tailgate window instead of a one-piece tailgate..I am happy with my purchase--no real major issues yet, and i dind that the Escape is stylish and comfortable..I bought the model with roof rails because I felt the car looked sort of pain wiithout them..but that is just a personal taste issue!

"I bought a 2013 Ford Escape brand new. During the first recall, my car was in the shop for a couple weeks. Ford would not make my monthly payment but offered to defer 3 months of payments to the end of the loan. At least thy tried, sort of. The Sync system is rebooting itself at least twice a month. Half the time the phone will not upload my contacts...it's the android phone. The best mpg I have ever gotten was 24mpg...that was on a flat highway going with 30mph wind gusts. Around town and interstate I only get about 22mpg, regardless of the weather. Currently, the vehicle's rpm is hitting 6000+ while the car slows down from 25mph to 15mph. Happening intermittently so dealership can't diagnose."

"We have had the 1.6 SE FWD Escape for 6 months now. Love the car and its more than adequate power, excellent sports like handling, smooth ride and quietness. Great styling inside and out makes us proud to drive and we opted for the large sun roof which is a delight in good weather ! Seats are very comfortable for long duration driving. Only gripe is with gas mileage which we expected to be better. After 6000 + miles we are getting around 19.5 mpg in city and 22.5 on highway. Mileage bit better with higher graded fuel, but not enough to justify extra costs. Its a great driving and looking vehicle but gas mileage is a concern."

"Had my new Ford 2013 Escape by less than 300 miles.
Parked in the garage, started up the Ford Escape 2013, opened the driver's door to walk around the car. While in the back of the car, I was backed into by my new car and quickly jumped back into the car to stop the car by pressing on brake and pressing the stop button. The door hit the side of wracks and severely damaged the door and dented the fender. It was still in Park, I believe. When I was in the car at first, it never moved backward on a level surface, some 20-30 seconds later it went into reverse. Presently, Ford has halted the repair on my vehicle until they can photograph it. I pray that Ford will take care of the damages of $2,995 and make sure it doesn't happen again. I am a responsible person who cares about safety and the new Escape now scares me for jumping out of Park into a reverse mode. The above is all true and hopefully Ford will come out and make it right. I have heard that they take two months and often deny any claims. Beware of your Ford Escape about the Park slipping in reverse. BTW: it does not start in reverse, so it had to be in park and the car was under power moving wracks and boxes back from a dead stop position and time off the clock later. Ford ordered to stop repair on my Escape until they flew someone out, and it has been told that it will be eleven days after I took it to the shop to repair. I am paying the repair so I can get my car back. I will report well if Ford covers all the cost of the repair. Honestly reported!"

"Drove a rental SEL 2.0 AWD with 19000mi last weekend for almost 850mi with 4 adults onboard.
I enjoyed this vehicle dynamics and handling. I'been interested to try it out and see what all the chatter about the gas mil and problems was about.
The vehicle had no issues, no ratling noises and worked as supposed. Best advice I can give you, rent one for a week and make your own decisions about gas mil.
We averaged 30gal on a 35% city 65% Hwy weekend in DC area all the way to Norfolk VA.
I can tell that this engine requires for the driver to learn how to use it and forget the habits you had with previous engines to get the most of it.
AWD is fantastic and the engine has ample power.
Sync was a mess with voice recognition but the touch screen was easy to use.
Try this vehicle for a week and you will see if it fits your driver profile.
Good luck

"My 2013 Escape is my second Escape. I bought it on purpose because I was pleased with my 2010. No so much now. I have filed a complaint with Oregon's Atty General seeking redress through Oregon's lemon law. The mechanics work find but everything electrical is hopeless. The door lock pads work - some time.
Most irksome is the synch system. Here we have to of America's largest corporations putting a hopelessly not-reqady for prime time product on a $30K plus car. The system reboots itself repeatedly. The voice recognition no longer (it did once) dials my phone. Music media stored on my phone do not connect nor do any streaming media.
The dealer has been sympathetic but says this is an issue Ford must deal with as they do not have technicians who can write code.
The best Ford can do is tell me it is my phone (iPhone 5) and that they are working on it.
The car is fine mechanically. It is a comfortable ride and reasonably well designed. However, the center console is a mystery pit. Surely Ford engineers could have figured out how to make this a useful storage area. The last Escape had a coin and key tray. This one does not. This alone keeps my wife wondering I leased this car.
There there is the rear hatch motion sensor that allows an owner to open the hatch with a swing of the leg. Nice idea unless you want a trailer hitch installed. Then the whole system has to be disabled because Ford's engineers put the sensor where hitches are installed. Apparently no one ever thought that a small SUV owner would want to haul a boat.
All in all, I would return this vehicle if I could. Ford heavily promotes its technology and Synch system. The only thing worse than no technology is technology that does not work. This alone is enough to advise others to stay clear."

"I purchased this vehicle after owning Nissans for the past few years; figured it was time to try an American car, and had seen positive reviews for the revamped 2013 Escape. My purchase experience was terrible, but that's another post. Since the end of October, I have had my SE in for service 3 times: front passenger window gets stuck in down position when it is cold; Sirius radio "skips"; and the ventilation favors the front defrost, no matter what position the knob is in. FINALLY today I heard that there is a problem that has been identified by the engineers with the window and they are working on a fix. I have given up on the other things, since I do not plan to keep this car any longer than it takes to address the window problem. Additional complaints: poor gas mileage (21.5 thus far after 6k miles) and frequent fill-ups; ridiculous placement of the temperature controls behind the shifter; and for $30k, I am amazed that there is no power driver seat, no power up on the driver window. No power anything. About the only positives I have are the panoramic sunroof and the color (Frosted Glass)."

"The only complaint I have about this vehicle is that the Gasoline fill site is on the right side of the vehicle. The Ford engineers who decided on this must be planning to sell a lot of these vehicles in England . I chose this vehicle because of the combination of towing capacity combined with respectable mileage when not towing. I do feel that the price when fully equiped is a little on the high side but I guess that It could be rebaged "Lincoln" without raising too many eyebrows."

"om a 2200 mile round trip couldn't average better than 23.5 mpg with the 2.0L awd.. constatntly stopping for fuel. no room in front for anything but 2 cups - no place for change or phone. sync functions to distractive for driver to use. BT function constantly cutting out with i-pod. poor visibility out rear window with rear seats up. blind spots out sides even with multi-surface outside mirrors. drove same trip in jeep grand cherokee ltd with v6 and got better mileage(26.7), fewer fuel stops, more interior room, better electronic interface, better rear visibility"

"Purschased new in August and with 7500 miles on it the fuel mileage has never been above 19 city and highway average. We just returned from a 2,100 mile trip to Florida and the highway mileage was 22.8!! Due to the very small tank you have to fill up way too often compared to out vehicles. Sucks having to stop all the time on a trip for gas. There is a scary over acceleration by the engine after making a corner. As you give it the gas the engine will surge and if you don't have the steering wheel gripped you could lose control. It is not the smooth power that we are used to and I feel this should be looked into by Ford. Very limited storage around the console and dash area. Air Condition vents don't allow you to direct air to lower area of cabin. On trips this is a real negativ. Very difficult to see out of vehicle when you back up. Noisy road noise in cabin unless on perfectly smooth streets or highways. That means that it is noisy pretty much all the time in our area. Really disappointed overall especially after this long trip."

"Put over 3000 miles on this car, about half highway. Best I could get is 23 mpg highway( 200 mile trip at 65 cruise control on Ohio turnpike)and that was done manually. mpg meter read 21.Been to Ford Maint. twice. stated that software problem. Still not fixed. Called ford dealer on this, was told that they don't claim that it gets over 30 highway, the EPA does. Could never put in more than 12.5 gallons of fuel into a so called 15 gallon tank. Blue tooth and radio go off and on when it feels like it. Have front wheel drive only, did not go well in 2 inches of snow. Put good tires on front. Still made no difference on the next small snow fall, I plowed driveway and still had trouble getting out. Not what I expected in gas mileage, should of kept my 2007 escape. Much better car. Don't like this one at all. Traded it in and took the loss on it."

"I bought a new 2013 Ford Escape on 2/1/13 and it broke down 2/27/13. My daughter and I were stranded in a dark parking lot because the car didn't start. Roadside assistant had to come give me a jump. I also broke down the next day with my daughter trying to go to work. This time we were toed to the Ford dealer. I can't believe my new car broke down twice. I got the new car for reliability. So much for that.
First I was told it was the battery and it would take 45 min to replace and my daughter and I waited at the dealership for 2hrs before they said they would have to check my car further. I was given a loaner, but my car is still in the shop. It's been almost 3 weeks. This is so crazy and I am so frustrated. I'm paying for a new car that doesn't work. I don't want that car and requested a replacement but Ford denied my request. I now have to start a lemon law investigation. I've been a Ford customer for 16 yrs. I don't know what they are doing this year. This is the worse car buying experience I have ever had.

"I bought the new escape SEL with all the trimmings in OCT. Within the first 4 months, the car was in the shop 3 times totalling one month with 3 seperate rental cars. The problem is the SYNC system. It seems to reboot multiple times within a short period of time. The phone/ipod,etc fails to connect frequently, etc. Ford was kind enought to send me one month's payment back since they had my car one month. I have been promised a warranty extension for over a month yet and it still is not in place. Due this issue I have looked into the lemon law as Ford doesn't seem to stand behind this product. I try to buy American made products but this is not a good example of how a consumer who is paying tens of thousands of dollars should be treated."
